Begin at Grand Army Plaza before entering the park and visiting The Pond, where the landscape creates a surprising sense of nature in the middle of Manhattan. Meet Balto, the famous sled dog commemorated in Central Park for his role in the 1925 serum run to Nome, then walk along the promenade beside Central Park Zoo and continue past Wollman Rink and the historic Dairy.

See the Central Park Carousel and learn about the park’s long tradition of recreation before reaching Sheep Meadow, one of the city’s most recognizable open spaces. Along the way, discover how Central Park has evolved from a carefully planned landscape into a place where generations of New Yorkers come to relax, play, gather, and enjoy the outdoors.

Walk beneath the American elm trees of The Mall and explore Literary Walk, where statues and monuments connect the park to New York’s literary and cultural history. The tour continues to Strawberry Fields, the peaceful memorial to John Lennon featuring the famous “Imagine” mosaic. Learn about Lennon’s connection to New York and the story behind this living memorial before concluding the tour in Central Park across from The Dakota, where Lennon lived.
