London: Historic Pub Food Tour, Pints & Pies

This tour follows one plate through 400 years of London history, tracing Fleet Street and the historic lanes between the City of London and the old courts — an area thick with stories that most guidebooks walk straight past.

It begins inside a tavern dating back to 1667, raised in the rebuilding after the Great Fire. From there, the route winds through some of the area's most storied pubs: London's narrowest, tucked behind a legendary old façade, and a handful of classic English taverns that once hosted poets, writers, and other characters woven into London's past.

Each stop brings something new to the table — a crusted pie, a Scotch egg, a proper pint — building toward a finish of sticky toffee pudding, a local favorite.

But the food and drink are really just the entry point. The guide's real subject is what sits behind them: why porter beer nearly vanished before staging a comeback, what those etched glass screens in Victorian pubs were actually for, and who once ate and drank in these rooms centuries ago. It's London's social history, told through its pubs and what was on the plate rather than a run of dates.

Vegetarian pies are available on request, and every alcoholic pairing has a non-alcoholic alternative.
