This small-group walking tour is a guided introduction to Florence's historic center, ending with the one thing that would otherwise cost you the better part of a morning: skip-the-line entry into the Duomo, with no wait in the general admission line.
The walk begins on foot through Florence's historic center. You'll pass the city's grandest civic square, the political stage of Florence for over 700 years, and walk streets once lined with Renaissance-era leather workshops and artisan stalls. Along the way, a guide points out details most visitors walk straight past, from bronze doors depicting Old Testament scenes to the buildings that once anchored Florence's medieval guilds.
From there, the tour continues to a landmark bridge that has crossed the Arno since the 14th century, still lined with the same small shops that have occupied it for generations.
The walk ends at Piazza Duomo, where priority access takes you inside the cathedral ahead of the general admission line. Once inside, a guide explains how the dome overhead was engineered, still the largest brick dome ever built, using techniques that predate steel and modern scaffolding by centuries. You'll also hear the story behind the cathedral's marble facade, added generations after the dome itself was finished.
This is a small-group tour, capped to keep the pace comfortable and the guide's commentary easy to hear throughout. Expect a moderate walking pace covering roughly 1.5 kilometers, with one dress code to keep in mind: shoulders and knees must be covered for cathedral entry, and heeled shoes or open sandals aren't permitted inside.
