Tour Overview
At the specified time, we will converge at Tv. de São Bartolomeu 4, ideally located in the bustling heart of Lisbon, ready to embark on a journey through layers of history, filled with delightful anecdotes and stunning vistas.
Our adventure begins at the renowned St. George’s Castle, where an informed guide will relate the captivating narrative of this age-old fortress that has stood sentinel over the city for almost a millennium. From its ancient ramparts, we will enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon extending down to the Tagus River.
After our castle visit, we will make a stop at the celebrated Miradouro de Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol viewpoints, before slowly weaving through the winding paths of the Moorish-influenced Alfama neighborhood. This area invites us to uncover the origins of Fado music, gain insights into the lives of Arab, Jewish, and Christian communities during the Middle Ages, and learn about the dramatic love affair between King Pedro I and Inês de Castro during the tumultuous 14th century.
Throughout our walk, we will admire the formidable walls of Lisbon Cathedral, pass by the Church of St. Anthony, and discover intriguing historical sites such as the Cadeia do Aljube and the Pátio do Carrasco. Additionally, we'll take in the facade of the Church of Our Lady of the Conception Old, where its intricate stone designs harbor enigmatic alchemical symbols.
Next, prepare to sample Ginjinha, Portugal's renowned sour cherry liqueur, served from a beloved family-owned establishment, while we delve into its significance within local culture.
Continuing our journey, we will enter the majestic Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), revealing concealed symbols and hidden stories often overlooked by typical guidebooks. We will then proceed into Chiado, Lisbon’s lively bohemian neighborhood, rich with stories of historical poets and intellectuals.
Our engaging tour will culminate after two hours of exploring, leaving with cherished memories of Lisbon’s vibrant past.
