Welcome to the Good Crumb
Join us in our North London kitchen and spend a few hours baking, chatting and eating with sisters Claudia and Giselle. This is an relaxed, hands-on experience, making crumpets, scones and lemon curd; some of the treats that make a British afternoon tea so special.
We’ll get started with a refreshing drink before heading into the kitchen. You’ll make crumpets from a yeast-based batter, finding out what gives them their wonderfully holey texture and how to get that soft, springy crumb. Then it’s time for lemon curd: smooth, zingy and made from scratch, with our tips for creating the perfect consistency.
Next, you’ll turn your attention to scones. Mix your dough, shape your scones and get them into the oven, picking up a few simple tricks along the way to help you achieve a lovely light bake.
While your scones are baking, we’ll cook the crumpets on the stovetop, watching them develop their crisp, golden edges and soft centres.
And then comes the part we all look forward to: sitting down together to eat! Spread your warm crumpets and freshly baked scones with butter, jam, lemon curd and clotted cream, and enjoy them with a pot of English tea.
There’s no pressure to be a confident or experienced baker. We’ll guide you through each stage, answer your questions and make sure everyone, young bakers included, can join in.
You’ll leave with your recipes, new skills and the know-how to bring a little bit of British afternoon tea into your own kitchen.
