I grew up in Trastevere, and this is the neighborhood I know by heart. This is not a classic food tour led by a guide with a flag: it is a walk with a local, through the streets and shops where I have been going my whole life and where people greet me by name. Because the owners know me, they chat with us, share their stories and make you feel like guests, not tourists.
A little about me: I am a certified tour guide, a sommelier and a chef, and I am passionate about art and history. That means you get the stories behind the places and the food, told by someone who truly knows both.
We meet at the Basilica of San Crisogono, an early Christian church dating back to 420 AD, with frescoes still inside. If you like, we can also visit the underground levels (only if you wish, of course). From there we start our walk through Trastevere, stopping at family-run, historic shops. We begin with a Roman breakfast: a maritozzo with cream, a local classic, with a drink of your choice. Then we move on to the savory part, with a supplì, a pizza with porchetta and, at the local market, a platter of cured meats and cheeses, each with a drink. We finish with a gelato.
How it works: the tour price covers my guidance and the stories behind each shop. Food and drinks are paid directly at each stop, so you decide how much to eat and which stops to join. If you join every stop, the cost of food and drinks is around 25 € per person. It can be less if you skip alcohol or don't order a drink at some stops. After booking, I will message you the full list of foods and prices. Please let me know your choices a little before the tour, so I can organize everything with the shops, which are small, historic, family-run places.
Good to know: wear comfortable shoes, as the streets are cobbled. Please tell me about any allergies or foods you prefer to skip when you reply to my message, and I will adapt the stops where I can. Shops and dishes may vary slightly with the season.
