Departing from central Rome, this day trip takes you to two of Italy's most extraordinary sites: the ancient ruins of Pompeii and the steaming crater of Mt. Vesuvius. Timed-entry tickets, expert specialist guides, and round-trip coach transport are all part of the package.
Your first stop is Pompeii, where a licensed archaeologist leads you through streets of the city frozen by the 79 AD eruption. See the forum, thermal baths, and private villas, and learn the stories of the citizens who once walked these cobblestone streets.
After your guided tour at Pompeii, head to a restaurant on the lower slopes of the volcano for an included three-course Neapolitan meal featuring classic pizza, local appetizers, and dessert, with sweeping views of the coastline.
In the afternoon, a volcanologist guide leads you up the gravel path of Mt. Vesuvius to the very rim of the crater (if crater option selected). Standing on the edge of the world's most famous active volcano, you hear firsthand about the seismic forces that shaped the entire Bay of Naples region.
The return coach brings you back to central Rome as the sun sets over the Italian countryside. This day trip is ideal for history enthusiasts, geology fans, and first-time visitors to southern Italy who want to cover both sites in one well-paced, fully guided day.
