Plan a day excursion from Madrid to the historic cities of Ávila and Segovia, renowned destinations in the region of Castile and León. You will marvel at exquisite medieval artworks and one of the most iconic Roman aqueducts globally.
Excursion to Segovia & Ávila
Our journey begins as we convene at the designated meeting point in Madrid for departure to Castile. The cities of Segovia and Ávila, both recognized as World Heritage Sites, will transport you through history, showcasing artifacts from the Roman era to the grandeur of the Middle Ages.
Upon arrival in Segovia, you will encounter the impressive Roman aqueduct, extending a remarkable 10 miles (16 km) and enduring for over two millennia. Take your time to wander through the charming streets of the old Jewish quarter, where the Segovia Cathedral stands, esteemed as the "Dama de las Catedrales Españolas" (Lady of the Spanish Cathedrals).
Explore the Alcázar of Segovia, a historic castle that served as residence for various kings and queens of Castile. Legend has it that Walt Disney drew inspiration from this fortress for the design of Snow White's castle.
In Ávila, the birthplace of Saint Teresa of Ávila, you will find the most ancient and well-preserved city walls in Spain.
We will meander through the old town of Ávila, discovering its Gothic palaces, Romanesque churches, and the captivating fortified cathedral. Depending on your selected option, you may choose to walk along the cathedral's walls or visit sites like the Basílica de San Vicente or the Convento de Santa Teresa.
After approximately 9 enriching hours dedicated to history and architecture, we will embark on the return journey to Madrid.
