Situated on dramatic cliffs, the monasteries of Meteora are renowned for their remarkable integration into the surrounding landscape. You can visit these stunning sites on a day trip from Athens.

Tour Overview

Your adventure will commence at Athens Central Station, where we'll gather at the designated time to embark on our journey to Meteora, with our ultimate destination being Kalambaka Station.

After approximately a four-hour journey, we will arrive at Kalambaka and then proceed towards the magnificent Meteora monasteries. A brief pause will allow you to enjoy lunch before we dive into an extensive exploration of the Meteora complex, dedicating about four hours to visit three of the monasteries.

This historical site is home to six monasteries in total: St. Nicholas, St. Stephen, Holy Trinity, Great Meteoron, Roussanou, and Varlaam. The specific monasteries included in the visit will depend on their operating hours and availability.

Before we return to Kalambaka, a visit to the Hermit Caves awaits, located between the impressive rock formations of Pyxari and Amparia. This serene stop serves as the perfect conclusion to our day. We will then retrace our steps back to the starting point, wrapping up this unforgettable 14-hour journey.

Ticket Choices

During the booking process, you can select from a couple of options that cater to your preferences:

Tour with or without lunch: Opting for lunch allows you to choose from 10 traditional Greek main courses, accompanied by a salad, bread, and mineral water. Vegetarian and vegan selections are also accessible. If you prefer the tour without lunch, you will have the opportunity to explore dining alternatives on your own.
Tour with a guide or audio guide: If you select the audio guide, you can take your time exploring the sites independently. Alternatively, with the guided option, a knowledgeable guide will accompany you throughout the entire experience.

Instructions

On the day of the activity, we'll meet at the scheduled time outside the Athens Central Station. The bus will be waiting for us on Teodoro Diligiannis Street. You'll see a sign with "METEORA THRONES - TRAVEL CENTER" in the window of the bus. You can see the exact location of the meeting point via the following link.

Please be ready 15 minutes before the departure time as the bus will not wait.

Important

On the day of the day trip, we'll see 6 monasteries from the outside and enter 3 of them,depending on availability and the opening hours of each one.
The admission ticket to each monastery is 5EUR per person (must be paid in cash). This cost is not included in the price of the tour.
The monasteries have a strict dress code for both men and women: Men must be wearing clothing that covers their shoulders and knees (shorts and shirts without sleeves are not permitted). Women must also have their shoulders covered and their knees must be covered with a long skirt. Long trousers for women are not allowed.

Please note that the Monastery of Great Meteoron is closed on Tuesdays (in summer) and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (in winter). If your reservation is on one of these days, you'll enjoy the monument only from the outside.
Please note that on December 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31, 2024, and January 1, 2, 3, and 4, 2025, the 2-day trip will not take place.
