Discover the beauty of Tuscany on this day trip to Montepulciano and Montalcino from Rome, enjoying views of the Italian countryside, exploring medieval villages and participating in a wine tasting.
Tour Details
We'll meet at the Piazza del Popolo to start this day trip.
Our first stop will be Montepulciano, known for its cobbled streets and Renaissance architecture. Here, we'll take a guided tour of its historic centre, passing through notable squares featured in films like Twilight Saga. You'll also have 1.5 hours of free time to explore, shop, or enjoy scenic views.
Next, we'll visit a 13th century wine cellar for a tasting of the region's wines, led by a sommelier. Alongside the tasting, we will learn about the Tuscan wine making process. This includes a visit to a 2000-year-old Etruscan tomb and the ancient refectory used by friars.
After the wine tasting, we'll have a Tuscan lunch with fresh ingredients paired with regional wines.
Continuing to Montalcino, we'll visit the ancient convent of Sant'Agostino, home to the Temple of Brunello, an interactive museum about Brunello di Montalcino wine. You'll have an hour of free time to explore the town and enjoy panoramic views before we return.
A short stop in Fabro will allow us to rest before finishing our tour at Piazza della Repubblica in Rome, after about 12 hours.
Instructions
