Experience the enchanting landscapes of Tuscany on this day excursion to Montepulciano and Montalcino departing from Rome. This journey promises breathtaking views of the Italian countryside, immersive exploration of quaint medieval towns, and the opportunity to participate in a wine tasting event.
Tour Overview
The adventure begins at the Piazza del Popolo, setting the stage for a day filled with rich culture, history, and the exquisite flavors that Tuscany has to offer.
Our first destination is Montepulciano, renowned for its picturesque cobbled streets and stunning Renaissance architecture. Here, a guided tour through the historic center awaits, where we will pass by squares featured in blockbuster films like the Twilight Saga. Following the guided portion, you will have 1.5 hours of leisure time to explore at your own pace—whether it's shopping, indulging in a gelato, or soaking in the beautiful vistas.
Next, we will visit a local 13th-century wine cellar, where a knowledgeable sommelier will lead us in sampling some of the region's best wines. During this tasting experience, we will gain insights into the traditional Tuscan wine crafting methods. Additionally, we will explore a 2000-year-old Etruscan tomb as well as the ancient refectory that once served the friars.
After our wine tasting, a delightful Tuscan lunch, featuring locally sourced ingredients and accompanied by exquisite regional wines, will be served.
Our journey continues to Montalcino, a historic town known for its impressive fortress and high-quality wines. Upon arrival, we'll visit the ancient convent of Sant'Agostino, home to the Temple of Brunello, an engaging museum dedicated to the illustrious Brunello di Montalcino wine. You will then have an hour of personal time to wander the town center, relish the breathtaking views, and if you desire, purchase local delicacies.
On our way back, we will make a brief stop in Fabro to rest and stretch before heading back to Rome. We expect to conclude our tour at Piazza della Repubblica after a full day of roughly 12 hours.
