Join us on a remarkable excursion from Rome to explore three essential destinations in central Italy: Assisi, Orvieto, and Civita di Bagnoregio. This journey features charming medieval towns, breathtaking landscapes, and deeply spiritual sites.
Details of the Day Trip
At the scheduled time, we will convene at the Roma Tiburtina Railway Station to commence our day trip to Assisi, Orvieto, and Civita di Bagnoregio.
After a brief stop en route, we will arrive in Assisi following a scenic 3-hour drive. Famous as the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi, this location serves as a key spiritual hub.
We will provide an overview of the town during the ride, and upon reaching it, you will have leisure time to navigate its medieval avenues and visit the renowned Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi at your own pace. We suggest checking out the Piazza del Comune, the vibrant central square of Assisi, and perhaps indulge in a coffee at one of its cafes.
Next, we will proceed to one of Italy's most enchanting spots, Civita di Bagnoregio, affectionately termed the Dying City due to the continuous erosion of its hillside.
To access this remarkable site, we will take a minibus to the famous panoramic bridge, offering stunning views. Here, you can wander through its cobbled streets, admire the ancient stone buildings, and soak in a distinctive atmosphere—an authentic step back in time!
Afterward, we’ll depart from this picturesque place to visit our final destination, Orvieto, another medieval treasure perched atop a volcanic rock cliff. Onboard the bus, we will share insights about its history and key landmarks before allowing you to explore the city independently.
One of the crown jewels of Orvieto is the Orvieto Cathedral, a stunning example of Italian Gothic architecture, renowned for its intricately sculpted façade and golden mosaics. As you stroll through the streets, keep an eye out for local artisan shops, and if you wish, sample the famous Orvieto Classico wine, one of the region's finest.
Following our time in Orvieto, we will begin our journey back to Rome, with an estimated arrival time of around 14 hours later.
