Experience the allure and cultural richness of the Templar City with this excursion to Tomar from Lisbon. We will take in the impressive 12th-century architecture and explore the historic Almourol Castle.
Day Trip to Tomar and Almourol Castle
At the specified time, we will gather at Praça da Figueira to commence our journey to Tomar. After approximately 90 minutes traversing the picturesque landscapes of central Portugal, we will reach our first stop, Almourol Castle.
We'll approach this 12th-century fortress, positioned on a tiny island within the Tejo River, via boat, allowing us to enter and admire its 10 remarkable towers. Throughout our exploration of the castle, we will delve into its storied past. Did you know it stands as one of the most significant military structures from the Iberian Reconquista?
Following this 1.5-hour visit, we will proceed to the heart of Tomar, renowned as the Templar City. Here, we will explore the historical center rich in medieval architecture associated with the Order of the Poor Knights of the Temple and discover more about King Alfonso I and the Templars.
Accompanied by our guide, we will tour the churches of São João Batista and Santa María del Olivar. Additionally, you will have some leisure time to savor traditional Portuguese dishes at a local medieval-style restaurant.
After two hours, we will enter the Convent of Christ, a Templar sanctuary built to resemble the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Our 2-hour guided tour will lead us through the exquisite cloisters, decorated chapels, and the renowned Manueline window, a stone-carved masterpiece reflective of the Age of Discovery.
We will conclude our tour with a return journey to Lisbon, with an expected arrival at Praça Marque de Pombal around nine hours after our initial pickup.

Travelers with children under 3 must provide their own baby car seats. These must be rear-facing and appropriate for children weighing up to 28 lbs (13 kg). If these seats are not brought along, the local team retains the right to deny participation in the trip, with no option for a refund.

Tour Without Pickup
15 minutes before the designated time, you'll need to be at the following location in Lisbon: Praça da Figueira, next to the statue of King Juan I. You can check the exact meeting point at the following Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/yposU47zicP3RVd39.
Next to the meeting point is the Rossio metro station (green line).
To be easily identified, the guide will wear a white T-shirt with the CoolToour and Civitatis logos.
Tour With Pickup
If you have booked the tour with pickup, in this case, 15 minutes before the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in the center of Lisbon. Please be ready at the hotel reception.
