Dive head first into Florence! Stroll through the streets on a guided tour as we uncover the impact of the famous Medici family on the city's architecture.
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Via de Lamberti, 1, in central Florence, where we'll kick off our guided walking tour of Florence! We'll dive into the city's history, starting with one of the most historically powerful families, the Medicis.
As we get started on our way, our knowledgeable guide will set the scene for us. We'll walk through a city that's been inhabited since prehistoric times, as we'll discuss how it also became a center for Etruscan culture. Our first stop is Piazza della Signoria, conveniently adjacent to Palazzo Vecchio. These two architectural beauties are just the first two examples left behind by the Medici Family.
Moving on, we'll head to the Duomo, Florence's Cathedral. Here, we'll find a three-part complex made up of the Baptistry and Giotto's Campanile. Combined, these three structures, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, were constructed thanks to the support of Cosimo Medici. As we take in the sheer beauty of these structures, our guide will bring our attention to the gold-paneled "Gates of Paradise." What is its significance? We'll find out!
From here, we'll make our way to Orsanmichele, a church originally built as a grain market that turned into a house of worship for Florence's most powerful craft and trade guilds. Then, we'll continue on to Santa Trinita Church. This building was traditionally a Roman Catholic Church, but the Column of Justice, just outside the church, was gifted to Cosimo de Medici by Pope Pius IV.
Finally, after 1.5 hours of getting to know the rich history of this iconic city, we'll bring the tour to an end.
