Guided Tour of Santa Croce Basilica
At the designated meeting time, we will gather in the Piazza Santa Croce. Here, we will be captivated by the impressive façade of the basilica before stepping inside to commence our guided exploration.
Upon entering through the left side, our guide will illuminate the remarkable treasures housed within. We will begin by appreciating some of the earliest artistic creations, including a sculpture honoring the writer Giovanni Battista Niccolini.
Our tour will unfold as we visit the most exquisite chapels of the basilica, featuring masterpieces by artists like Giotto, renowned for his frescoes, and Donatello, creator of the monumental crucifix at the high altar. The Santa Croce Basilica is celebrated not only for its vast artistic collection and grand scale but also as the final resting place of several notable figures including Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo Galilei, and Rossini.
Following our exploration of the main sections and the sixteen chapels within, the guided tour will conclude as we visit the crypt and enjoy views of the belltower.
