On this tour we'll visit two of the most interesting places found on the outskirts of Tokyo: Kamakura, known for its Grand Buddha and Enoshima!
Tour Details
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Tokyo, on foot, at the indicated time and make our way to the train station to start our day trip to Kamakura. Ready for an adventure?
After a brief 1-hour train ride, we'll arrive at Kamakura Station. First up, we'll stroll down Komachi-dori Street, where we'll admire shops full of local handicrafts and local restaurants. As we make our way down this bustling street, it will lead us to our next stop of the day.
As we come to the end of Komachi-dori Street, we'll find the Tsurugaoka Hachimang? Shrine, the most important Shinto shrine in the city. Did you know they kept Feng Shui in mind while designing it back in 1063? We'll admire its gardens, and then climb up the iconic staircase for breathtaking panoramic views of the town below. Don't forget your camera!
Next up, we'll hop on the tram for a quick 5-minute journey to the K?toku-in Temple and the Great Buddha statue. We'll make our way through the temple grounds while our guide shares historical insights and architectural fun facts with us. We'll also learn about the role Buddhism plays in the region. If you'd like, you can also choose to enter the Buddha statue, for an additional cost.
By now, we'll have worked up an appetite, so we'll leave you 1 hour of free time to enjoy lunch at any of the local restaurants nearby. Then, with newfound energy, we'll return to the tram station and take a 20-minute tram to Enoshima.
Here, we'll stroll the Benzaiten Nakamise-dori shopping street. We'll make our way down the narrow marketplace and marvel at the souvenir shops and food stalls offering local specialties. If you have any room left after lunch, consider trying takoyaki, a fried octopus ball, or shirasu, a type of small white fish, and feel like a local!
Then, after an incredible day exploring this corner of Japan, we'll hop back on the train and head back to Tokyo where we'll arrive 8 hours later, at Tokyo Station.
