Are you in Porto and like baking? In this pastel de Belém cooking class, you'll learn how to prepare a pastel de nata, the most famous dessert of Portugal.
Cooking Class Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the shop located at Rua da Bainharia, number 135, just a 5-minute walk from the Porto Cathedral.
The pastel de Belém, named after the neighborhood of Lisbon it was created in, is also known as pastel de nata, translating to "cream pastry." It contains a custard made with egg, milk, and sugar, called nata.
We'll start the cooking class by weighing the ingredients. Important measures are essential. Then, we will prepare the syrup, custard, and dough. Shaping the dough takes about 4 hours, but we'll have the dough ready for cooking.
Once we have all the necessary ingredients, we'll bake our pastéis de nata for about 15 minutes. During this time, we’ll learn about the history of these desserts, which are a culinary icon in Portugal.
After taking them out of the oven, we'll try the pastéis de nata served with Port wine, juice, or mineral water. Any leftover pastéis de nata can be taken home in a box.
This pastel de Belém class will last between 1.5 and 2 hours.
