During this walking food tour of Barcelona’s central, but authentic, El Born district you will taste and experience traditional Spanish and Catalan market cuisine, at the same time as you learn about the city.
We start with a brief historic overview of Catalan cuisine, before taking a tour of the wonderful Santa Caterina food market, with its iconic Gaudi-inspired roof. This market is beloved by locals, and restauranteurs, who come here to pick up their fresh produce.
Next, we’ll visit a traditional Catalan tavern-style restaurant, where we’ll taste local tapas like croquetas, pimientos padròn and pa amb tomàquet. The latter, we’ll learn how to make ourselves with tomatoes, olive oil, salt and garlic. We'll also have the chance to drink some wine from the legendary Spanish drinking vessel, the porrón.
Later, we’ll visit a bodega where you can choose to drink a local vermouth, cerveza or even txakolin (a traditional wine from the Basque region of Spain), as we feast on the likes of Spanish omelette, mushrooms with white wine, and Iberian ham - considered the world's best. We'll also be able to witness how the ham is cut in a traditional way with a cuchillo jamonero.
- Enjoy classic dishes and even try drinking from a Spanish porron vessel.
- Explore Barcelona's culinary history from market traditions to modern tapas.
- Gain a deep understanding of Barcelona's food culture from our fun guides.
- Savor an array of pintxos and tapas from different regions of Spain.
The meeting point may vary. Always check the tickets we sent you to confirm the final details before the activity.
