Craft Beer Graffiti Tour - Comuna 13

Would love to write a good review, however no one ever showed up. The meeting point in the tour description and in confirmation email was at the escalators which I found no problem. As I was on my way, I got an email saying they would meet me at the subway station which is a 30 minute walk away. I replied saying I was at the escalators already so they said to meet at a cafe near there and the staff would help me. I found it no problem and sure enough they knew Juan, told me he was out of town, so I ordered a beer assuming whoever was emailing me from Juan's account was on the way. Sent a few more emails, no reply so just left after 40 minutes and walked around on my own.

This was a fantastic tour! Met with Carlos, a local guide, who got us from the metro up to Comuna 13. He was very funny, knew everyone in the neighborhood and had a lot of great stories. We met Juan in Comuna 13 at a small storefront bar, where we tasted local beers and learned more about the neighborhood. Glad we booked this tour instead of some of the costly, more touristy ones where they do things like wear matching, airbrushed trucker hats. This felt a lot more authentic. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting beautiful Medellin!!!

Juan's Comuna 13 tour was one of the highlights of our trip. There were so many things we loved about the tour. First is Juan himself. He was a wealth of information and helped us understand the history of the district and talked about the amazing graffiti on display. He also cares so much about the community which you can see through his interaction with the people there. Part of the money he earns goes directly back into the community. Then there is the beer. If you are a beer lover this is the tour for you. You can see that the craft beer scene is growing and Juan is playing a big part in that. He has set up a couple bars in the area and displays his own brand C13 along with others brands from medellin. And the beers were delicious and full of flavour. We sampled a bunch of beers and walking around drinking a beer made it much more fun. Because he is so into the craft beer scene it made it very enjoyable talking beer with him too. His bars also act as a cafe where he served delicious coffee. Like with beer he is very passionate about his coffee and is trying to promote local brands. He has various beans for sale for a very reasonable price and knowing that part of the sale goes back to the community makes it worth the purchase. If you are in Medellin, doing a comuna 13 tour is a must. If you are into craft beer and coffee then this is the tour for you. Thank you for the great experience!
