This tour was not a FREE walking tour. The guide was generally perfect leading the tour. However it's unacceptable for the guide to state at the beginning of the tour that usually people give him £20 pounds per person, but he accepts more or less of this amount, and at the end of the tour ask for £20 per person, treating it as if it was a pre-agreed price. I have participated in more than 10 similar tours, and I have never experienced such behavior before.
