Excellent tour by Benjamin of the Plateau and Mike End. Benjamin was deeply knowledgable about the history of the neighborhood from the home of immigrants capturing the ethnic fabric to recent gentrification. He had wonderful vignettes of some known and less well known personalities who did heroic things. He also covered cultural highlights including murals and Indie music. There were some architectural gems from the winding external staircases in front of of homes to the green alleys. The pacing of the walk was great. We learned so much. My only suggestion is that unlike other guru walks we have done throughout the world, Benjamin was a bit too serious and could have made the walk more entertaining with humor. The walk ended with delicious Montreal bagels; which may top New York’s.

At first, when he got his speaker out I thought it was overkill but soon I realized he knew what he was doing - there’s a lot of noise in the city and with that gadget we could hear his interesting stories no matter what. Loved it!!!

Benjamin was really knowledgeable and shared his love of the place with the group and told us lots of interesting facts. I think he finds it difficult to make eye contact with people, but this didn’t detract from how good the tour was. I had booked for myself and my husband, but unfortunately, my husband wasn’t able to go because of an injury to his knee. I did try to inform Benjamin beforehand, but your site took me to a Spanish site and I was unable to do it.. I wish him well.

Our tour guide was Benjamin, born and raised in Montreal, very knowledge of the neighbourhood and its history. I didn’t know anything about the Mile end neighbourhood and learnt about the Jewish, Portuguese and Italian influences. If you are looking for something different give it a try

This tour is fascinating for the immigrant history of Montreal, from the large Ashenazi Jewish immigration in the early 1900s to waves of Polish, Portuguese, and other cultures who came to live and work in the plateau of the city. Benjamin gave excellent accounts of the history as a native of the area.

Benjamin is a great guide who brings his personal experience and love of Montreal to his tour. I'm not sure we agree on the great bagel debate (Fairmount vs. St. Viateur) but... Thank you, Benjamin, for a great introduction to Montreal, its people and history.
