This was a really great tour, off the beaten path a bit to take in the locals perspective on Takayama, but still went through the major sights as well. Jan had lots of stories and history to share. We only had one day in Takayama so this was excellent. I would highly recommend it for a good first look at the town.

We highly recommend the tour with Jan! Even though he’s not Japanese, he has an impressive knowledge of Japanese culture and shared it in a very engaging way. He answered all our questions thoughtfully and showed us parts of Takayama that visitors, for some unknown reason, simply don’t tend to explore. Overall, we absolutely loved this tour — it was such a pleasant surprise!

Such an amazing tour! Jan kept us very engaged from the very first moment. He shared with us historical and current information about Takayama, his experience as a foreigner living in Japan and he took us to hidden gems of the city. We deeply enjoyed this tour and also appreciated that Jan took extra time to ensure all our questions were answered before we said good bye.

The tour guide was great. His explanations were interesting and useful giving us more of a view of Japanese culture and way of thinking out of the typical tour of just historical dates. Also Jan's style and way of telling things is very entertaining. The only thing I'd change is that these explanantions could be given in prettier places instead of a parking lot or a old map because you don't see the touristic points but overall it's very recommendable.

We loved the tour Jan has given us. It was very fun, entertaining and informative. Although we were in Japan for 1.5 weeks already, we felt we learned a lot. Jan is a very charismatic guide. He was very kind and patient with us. We also appreciated his willingness to show us the leas touristic Takayama gems. Overall we had a great time. Thank you, Jan!

Definitely worth it of you are in Takayama! You'll get to understand more unknown aspects of the town and Jan will provide very interesting insights of someone who is not japanese but has spent enough time in the country to understand their culture and society.

Amazing tour in a small town. Jan was a good tour guide and gave great recommendations for things to do afterwards. I was worried that I would not have enough to do on my 3 day stay in Takayama and I’m glad I did this tour on the first day because it gave me plenty to do afterwards. 10/10 would recommend.
