He answered all our questions thoughtfully and showed us parts of Takayama that visitors, for some unknown reason, simply don’t tend to explore. The tour guide was great. His explanations were interesting and useful giving us more of a view of Japanese culture and way of thinking out of the typical tour of just historical dates. Also Jan's style and way of telling things is very entertaining. The only thing I'd change is that these explanantions could be given in prettier places instead of a parking lot or a old map because you don't see the touristic points but overall it's very recommendable.

Definitely worth it of you are in Takayama! You'll get to understand more unknown aspects of the town and Jan will provide very interesting insights of someone who is not japanese but has spent enough time in the country to understand their culture and society.

Amazing tour in a small town. Jan was a good tour guide and gave great recommendations for things to do afterwards. I was worried that I would not have enough to do on my 3 day stay in Takayama and I’m glad I did this tour on the first day because it gave me plenty to do afterwards. 10/10 would recommend.

This tour was amazing! Jan takes you off the beaten path, I was so amazed to see the beautiful characteristic streets empty for me to take photographs. He tells a lot of interesting stories, all in all, I really loved it ❤️

Jan was an incredible guide and shared his passion for Takayama, with tips on where to eat and drink too. He talked to us on such a variety of topics, from Japanese culture and religion, to where to get the best ramen in town! We have done several Guru walks during our 2 week stay in Japan but his was the best!
