Tour description

After an introduction about Marseille , we will travel back in time to the birth of the city, Le Jardin Des Vestiges , the original port where the Phocei founded Massalia. Next, we will head towards the old Town Hall (Municipalidad Hotel de Ville), the place where the Count of Monte Cristo was betrayed by his best friend and sent to the Chateu d'If.
We will go up to the oldest neighborhood in France and birthplace of the city, Le Panier , where Napoleon Bonaparte had an apartment and the first emigrants came to settle in this "village" within the city of narrow streets, and still with Provençal character.
Here, we will discover La Vielle Charite , an old hospice and spectacular monument, today a museum and poetry school. We will go down in search of the sea to discover the new port and the Major Cathedral , the largest church in the city that looks towards the Mediterranean and the only National Museum outside of Paris Le Mucem, connected by bridges with the old neighborhood and the Fort de Saint Jean who belonged to the Templars of the order of Jerusalem and Malta.
Returning to the heart of Marseille, we will pass through Le Vieux Port , where local people and nomads from all over the world continue to pass through this place that has lived a long history.

The tour will start outside the Burger King Vieux Port, 1 Quai des Belges, on the Rue Canebiere side,

He forced us to pay €10 per person, indicating that it was mandatory when on the Guruwalk website, it indicates that it is recommended or advisable NOT mandatory. Furthermore, the guide with whom we had the reservation did not come and a colleague of his named Raúl came.

Louis was very knowledgeable about the history as well as current events/environment of Marseille. He made sure to hit the highlights as well as noted what museums / sites were worth a visit on our own. He gave my family and I a good overview and understanding of France’s oldest port city in under two hours!

Louis was amazing. He pitched his tour perfectly, a well balanced blend of history, fun facts and pop culture. Perfect pace for a group of 10 people. Kept everyone interested until the very end of a 1.45 hour tour. Louise gave a lot useful and practical tips about places to see and where to eat. Do this tour first thing as you arrive in Marseille. Might help you to avoid tourist traps and gives you an idea of what things you can do and how much they may cost.
