Free Tour Discover Arrecife

The tour lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes
Available in Spanish

Description

Discover Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, through its history, its culture and its close relationship with the sea.

Let's delve into the Arrecife marina, its geography, its fauna and its history, to understand how this unique coastal landscape gave rise to a fishing town that eventually became the island's capital.

Throughout the tour we will explore some of the most emblematic places in Arrecife from a historical and cultural point of view, such as the Church of San Ginés, the spiritual heart of the city, or the Calle Real and the former headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, from where the economic and social transformation that led to the Lanzarote tourist revolution of the sixties was conceived.

We will also discuss the relationship between key figures such as César Manrique and José Ramírez Cerdá, the role of fishing in the island's economy, traditional agriculture in a territory marked by water scarcity, and the customs that have shaped the identity of the people of Arrecife.

During the walk we will discover the Castle of San Gabriel and the Bridge of the Balls, the old municipal market, the remains of the canning industry, the fishing neighborhood of La Puntilla and the Charco de San Ginés, one of the most representative and photogenic corners of the city.

Accompanied by a local guide, they will also receive authentic recommendations for eating in Arrecife, learn about its gastronomy and make the most of their stay on the Island of Volcanoes.
