Salerno old town free guided tour
I obtained bachelor degree in Cultural Heritage, master degree in Classical Archaeology and the diploma of Post-Graduate School in Archeological Heritage. I’m an authorized guide of Campania Region since 2011 and also I worked like archaeologist in all around the Mediterranean sea: Populonia (Livorno, Italy), Paestum (Salerno, Italy), Olbia de Provance (Hyères, Var –France), Efestia (Lemnos, Greece), Phaistos, (Crete, Greece). Since I was a child I loved history of ancient Greeks and Romans and also the Art history from the Middle Age to the Avanguardie of the ‘900. I live in Salerno a characteristic sea town located between the paradise of Amalfi Coast and the charming Cilento. I'm going to offer my knowledge in the art-historical and archaeological field for anyone who wants to understand and investigate the incredible richness of the Campania Region. Together we will discover the secrets of ancient Greeks and Romans that already in the past they knew the incomparable beauty of this places. I collaborate with Slow Food (an international movement that strives to preserve traditional and regional cuisine and encourages farming of plants, seeds and livestock characteristic of the local ecosystem) and so I organize specific tours to those who want to discover the authentic pleasures of wine and food.
Tour description
Join us on a walking tour of the historical center of Salerno.
As your local guides and friends, we will be happy to show you the history and the local spots of our hometown!
Salernum was founded by the Romans in the 2nd century B. C. but the most important period for the city was in the middle ages. In this time Salerno was one of the most important cities of the Mediterranean sea, here was founded the first Medical School in the world around the end of the 9th century A. D.
Together we will discover the history and the architecture of the medieval time with a visit to the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, a spectacular example of Arab-Norman architecture. This church also contains a beautiful crypt in the Baroque style.
We will be also happy to give you some tips on where to eat local food and where to go to drink a glass of wine in authentic places.
Use the time with us also to ask questions about the entire region and the other beautiful sites you want to visit and need advice on!
This is a great tour also for an introduction and orientation of all the beauties of the Campania Region (Amalfi coast, Paestum, Capri island, Pompeii, etc..)
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The entrance of the Crypt of Saint Matthew is free but an offer to the church is a best practise.
