Madrid is a literary treasure from side to side, which invites us to discover its secrets in this exciting field. Thus, not only the great writers focused on the Barrio de las Musas but also lived and coexisted in various spaces of the city.
In this tour I offer you to discover a different route and outside the walls of the Barrio de las Letras in the heart of the city and worthy of being known by the travelers who visit us, and which is also part of the cultural and literary heritage, where poets and writers both national and from other latitudes lived in this capital.
For approximately an hour and a half we will start the tour in the Plaza Mayor and we will walk through the birthplace of Lope de Vega, the house of Calderón de la Barca, the residence of Benito Pérez Galdós, the church where Francisco de Quevedo was baptized and the theater where Federico García Lorca represented his first play ; At Puerta del Sol we will find the pension where Jorge Luis Borges wrote his first ultraist poems, the Valle-Inclán social gathering café and then the lodging of Alejandro Dumas when he visited Madrid and wrote two of his works as a result of his unforgettable experience.
In this walk I will tell you how Valle-Inclán lost an arm in one of his gatherings, and his meeting with the poet Rubén Darío. I will also tell you why both Pérez Galdós and Jorge Luis Borges were denied the Nobel Prize for Literature, and the reproach that the novelist Carlos Fuentes made of him, among other anecdotes of encounters and disagreements.
