The best free walking tour of Essaouira Medina
Hi everyone I'm Karim an artist musician and dancer I'm living in essaouira more than twenty years . Let me show you this lovely place.
Tour description
First, we'll start by visiting the Jewish quarter, it's one of the most historical sites in Essaouira and you will see how it has endured so many changes throughout the times. We may visit the synagogue and wander around in the streets.
Afterward, we'll eventually visit one of the most authentic Gnaoua musicians in his workshop, 'Maalem' Najib's Workshop: (Maalem: some sort of a master of Gnaoua music) a wonderful person and beautiful soul who enjoys sharing stories and playing music for his guests.
You will see the process of creating traditional Gnaoua music instruments, made by the hands of the greatest master.
I will show you then one of my favorite hidden gems here in Essaouira, it is a very small Japanese restaurant run by a lovely Japanese couple, it is not a fancy type of restaurant but a tiny cozy room with a wonderful view of the ocean.
In our next stop, we will be discovering a gallery of Amazigh vintage - jewelry, plates, carpets, traditional clothes, and interior objects - stored, and hidden in the streets of Essaouira.
The shop owner is originally an Amazigh local who's very passionate about handicrafts.
Everything single product in his shop is handmade and made with passion.
You will have the chance to see some wonderful historical items that you won't find elsewhere.
Then we'll pass by Al-Khayma Square, in this little square of the old medina, we'll find many small cozy restaurants of all tastes, and especially, some amazing music cafés where local bands play almost everyday various musical types. 🎶
We will go then to a place where you can enjoy one of the best sunset views in Essaouira. It is originally a Terrace of a very old hotel that have been here for ages: very simplistic but has a magnificent terrace from where you can see the fish port and enjoy the view while having a drink.
And If you want to grab a beer I will show you this place we call the Hole, sounds creepy, but don't worry, all there is, a Moroccan themed bar, with locals grabbing drinks, listening to old Arabic music,
To end the tour, we will go through the market and I will show you my favorite shops and the Argan cooperatives runned by Berber women where they make argan oil, Amlou and spices.
Meeting point: We will meet at Bab Doukala. It is one of the gates to Medina, facing North-East. I Will be standing outside the walls near the entrance waiting for you.
