Free Tour Siena, off the beaten path
- 1 hour and 30 minutes

Description
Are you visiting Siena for the first time and want to discover the most significant places of a city that was one of the most important economic and cultural centers of the Italian Middle Ages?
The Siena Free Tour, off the beaten path, is the perfect way to discover a lesser-known side of the city! We will meet at the city entrance, at San Prospero Viewpoint, next to the “L’Amore Salva il Mondo” sculpture.
We will start by paying homage to Saint Catherine at the Basilica of San Domenico, where her relics rest. You will hear a lot about her and her connection with the city. We will then enter the Contrada dell’Oca, where we will talk about the Palio and the long and complex tradition surrounding it.
After that, we will go down to Fontebranda for a short refreshment break, before heading up to Piazza del Duomo, dominated by Santa Maria della Scala, one of the oldest hospitals in the world.
The tour will naturally conclude in the monumental Piazza del Campo, the beating heart of Siena’s culture and an extraordinary architectural setting where the famous Palio di Siena takes place twice a year.
