Essential Free Historical Tour of Stirling
Tour description
Explore Stirling on our Free Tour of the historic center. In the history of Scotland, 11 cities were fortified, and Stirling was one of them. You will walk through impressive streets, such as King Street, where you will learn about famous poets and the most notable buildings in the city. Additionally, you will ascend to the highest area of the city, where the old medieval market and the site of public executions were located.
In the 19th century, Stirling housed the most terrible prison in all of Great Britain. It was a damp and unpleasant place, full of prisoners, including men, women, and children. Among them were minor offenders to adults, ranging from murderers to people awaiting trial and debtors.
On the other hand, the Holy Rude Church in Stirling was the scene of the coronation of King James VI, son of Mary Stuart. Along with Westminster Abbey, this church is the only one still in use that has witnessed such events in Great Britain. A local guide will accompany you through the streets of this beautiful city, where you will discover King Street, the medieval wall, Mercat Cross, the Old Jail, the Tollbooth, John Cowane's Hospital, the Old Cemetery, Pyramid Star, and the Holy Rude Church, among other places.
