Marigny/Frenchmen Street Stroll
The tour lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes
Available in English
Description
The Marigny neighborhood sits adjacent to the French Quarter and offers whimsical curving streets, rich history, and a bustling music scene. It was originally owned by bon vivant, Bernard de Marigny, who inherited it upon the death of his father when he was only fourteen. At times, the area has been home to a thriving population of free people of color, German and Irish immigrants, and a large LGBTQ+ community. We will explore the groups that helped carve out the region as something unique and distinct from the French Quarter. We will also stroll Frenchmen Street as an introduction to the bar/music scene so you know what hotspots to check out post tour.
Guide: Sandy
Guiding since 2024PRO
I have a Master's degree in history and have been a licensed tour guide in New Orleans for 20 years. I love showing people around my city. I want them to fall in love with New Orleans as much as I have.
I'm also an artist. If you are looking for a souvenir, I created an adult coloring book of the French Quarter. It is on Amazon under my name, Sandy Hester.
