Free Tour following the footsteps of Las Almadrabas and the History of Conil.
Tour description
A tour to learn about the history of a town that, since the 14th century, was a border between the Christian Kingdom of Castile and the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, the moment chosen for the construction of the Guzman Tower by the Dukes of Medina Sidonia.
From there, walls and security were built to protect the tuna-derived almadraba industry, an activity that has always been the driving force of life in Conil.
From that moment on, fountains and wash houses, plazas, arches/protective gates, over the Atlantic.
We will visit places such as the Tower, the old Prison, the Villa or Vejer Gate, the Church Convent and its Viewpoint, and finish at La Chanca, an interpretation center for tuna and its fishing techniques.
At the beginning and end, a walk along the Bateles beach and its promenade to the Atlantic Ocean
We will see:
- Playa de los Bateles, 7km long, but just a walk
- Conil seafront promenade
- Climb up the beach avenue to the Torre de Guzmán, a restored and whitewashed Almohad tower that was formerly part of a medieval fortress.
- Stroll through the white alleys of Conil
- Plaza de España and statue in honor of José Saramago
- Arco de la Villa, the former North Gate giving access to the fortified city
- Constitution Square with the Town Hall, Courts and Church of Las Virtudes, Patron Saint of Conil
- Town Hall Viewpoint
- Descent to the center through the Flower Alleys neighborhood
- La Chanca, within the interpretation of tuna fishing in almadrabas
