The Troubles Through Local Eyes: A Belfast Story

As a Belfast-born guide who grew up during the Troubles, I offer a local perspective shaped by first-hand experience of the conflict and the city’s transformation in the years since.

Through murals, peace walls and personal insight, this tour explores not only the history of the Troubles, but also the communities, memories and lasting impact that continue to shape Belfast today.

Tour Description:

Explore Belfast’s history of the Troubles through both sides—Protestant & Catholic, Unionist & Nationalist, Loyalist & Republican. Walk the Falls and Shankill Roads, see powerful murals and landmarks, and hear hidden local stories and insights only a true local can share.

Some of the areas we will visit:

Loyalist side

  • Welcome mural on Shankill road
  • The Bayardo Bar Memorial
  • Omagh bomb Memorial Garden
  • Ulster Tower Mural
  • VE Day & 36 (Ulster) Division Murals
  • Ulster Covenant Mural

Republican side

  • Welcome mural on Falls road
  • Divis Tower and murals
  • The International ("Solidarity") Wall
  • Republican Garden of Remembrance
  • The Hunger Strikers Memorial
  • Bobby Sand Mural

Along the tour I will also explain the history behind the Troubles in a larger context and also explain the road to peace and the 1998 Peace Agreement.

All questions will be answered and the tour will be delivered in a impartial professional way

Please note:

This is a authentic boutique tour given by a real local with first hand knowledge of the Troubles and the country in general. It is not a tour provided by a generic tour company. Please come on my tour and I will show you the real Belfast!
