Charlie Chaplin - From Boyhood Poverty to Hollywood Stardom

I am pleased to invite you to join me on this informative and fun free tour exploring the early life and experiences of renowned silent movie and film industry pioneer, Charlie Chaplin, who was born in 1889 in the Victorian poverty afflicted area of Kennington in South London.

Charlie's parents were music hall performers and the area at the time was renowned for its theatres and home to many theatrical acts and entertainers. But his father's alcoholism and his mother's mental health problems dragged the family on a downward spiral into debt, crearing a traumatic childhood for Charlie and his brother Sidney.
The tour lets you walk the streets that Charlie Chaplin walked and visits locations associated with him and his parents, homes they lived in, homes of other music hall entertainers of the era, and the notorious Lambeth Poor House were the two Chaplin boys and their mother ended up as penniless destitutes. Blended into the narrative will be lots of local facts and history.
You will hear the inspiring story of how young Charlie mustered the strength to rise above his adversity, using his challenging experiences and keen his observations of the characters he met on the streets as the key ingredients from which he created his celebrated cinematic character, The Little Tramp, known the world over for his iconic moustache, bowler hat, and walking cane.

The tour lasts 2 hours
