Free tour Linares: history and legends
Tour description
We'll begin opposite the Madrid train station, on the Paseo de Linarejos, a promenade lined with 100 stone benches that tell the story of Linares through real photographs. We'll talk about Linares and Cástulo, the importance of the lead mines, and visit the Mining Landscape Interpretation Center. We'll discuss the Madrid train station and the significance of the railway in Linares, which once boasted five train stations and even a tram line. We'll walk along the promenade to the Fuente de la Constitución (Constitution Fountain) and come face to face with the bullring, where Manolete performed his last bullfight. We'll see the monument to this bullfighter, the Walk of Fame honoring bullfighters born in Linares, and, in the Santa Margarita Gardens, in front of their busts, we'll talk about the city's great benefactors: the Marquesses of Linares. We'll descend to the city center, passing by the first Banesto branch outside Madrid and the former headquarters of the Bank of Spain (now the municipal library). We'll arrive at the city's nerve center, the Eight Gates, and continue to the town hall. We'll stop at the entrance to the Royal Mint. We'll walk up to the town hall square to admire the impressive Church of Santa María, which dominates the entire square, and we'll finish by talking about the Pósito (municipal granary), located on one side of the square. After almost two hours, we'll say goodbye next to the statue of the city's most iconic figure, the singer Raphael, whose museum is nearby.
