Freetour Linares: History and Legends
Tour description
We will start in front of the Madrid Station, on the same Linarejos promenade, a boulevard with 100 stone benches that tell the history of Linares through real photos. We will talk about Linares and Cástulo, the importance of the lead mines, and we will see the mining landscape interpretation center. We will discuss the Madrid station and the importance of the railway in Linares, which once had five train stations and even a tram. We will walk along the promenade to the Constitution fountain and come face to face with the bullring, where Manolete performed his last bullfight. We will see the monument to this bullfighter, the walk of fame of bullfighters born in Linares, and we will talk, in the gardens of Santa Margarita in front of their busts, about the great benefactors of the city: the Marquises of Linares. We will go down to the city center, passing by the first Banesto branch outside of Madrid and the headquarters of the Bank of Spain (now the municipal library). We will reach the nerve center of the city, the Eight Doors, and continue to the town hall. We will stop at the door of the Royal Mint and Foundry House. We will go up through the town hall square to admire the impressive temple of Santa María that presides over the entire square, and we will finish by talking about the Pósito, which is on one side of the square, and say goodbye after almost two hours next to the statue of the city's most emblematic figure, the singer Raphael, whose museum is nearby.
