Hi, I´m Duncan.
From Scotland originally & Official Tour Guide in Valencia since 2011.
What am I like as a guide? I´m a native English speaker, and fairly easy to understand for a Scotsman.
I love to travel, and prefer longer, slower-paced tours with lots of interesting stories. So that´s what I´ll aim to do for you. Expect in-depth explanations rather than rhyming off dates and facts about buildings.
Want advice on things to do in Valencia? No problem. During the tour I like to chat, get to know you, and recommend things I think you´ll like.
I find Valencian and Spanish history fascinating, and have a great passion for the food of my adopted homeland. If you want to hear all about Valencia´s history and get some great food recommendations, I´m your man.

Tour description
So you´re coming to Valencia? Great decision. It´s got the most beautiful old town, over 2,000 years of fascinating history & phenomenal food. So why rush it?
Most guides will show you around the old town in a couple of hours. It´s kinda small, and everything´s close together. But I like to take longer. Here´s why:
- More stops (including some hidden gems)
- More stories (there's so many)
- More time for photos (make your friends jealous)
- Most importantly: Time to get to know you and give tailored recommendations (mainly food-related)
The tour lasts about 3.5 hours. Too long? Don´t worry, I won´t be marching you around; we´ll go at a relaxed pace. Total distance covered is less than 4km, and we´ll take a break for refreshments. But if you´re looking for a quick whirl around the old town, this tour probably isn´t for you.
A Few Highlights:
- How 500 years of Muslim rule left a huge legacy
- Valencia´s rise to prominence during its 15th-Century Golden Age and its later decline
- Why´s there a bat everywhere?
- What´s the deal with the river?
- Is the Las Fallas festival really that crazy? Answer - yes, it most certainly is!
Food & Drink:
- What is authentic Paella, and where are the best places to eat it?
- Why Almuerzo is so much better than brunch
- Horchata: Is there anything more refreshing?
Optional Bonus Stop:
After the tour, I can show you around the Central Market (we finish up next to it).
