Upstarts, Restarts, and a False Start: six stellar San Franciscans
The tour lasts 2 hours
Available in English
Description
This tour introduces attendees to six variously full-time, part-time, and simply San Francisco-inspired 19th century revolutionary social thinkers and activists.
These six personalities and their deeds challenge humanity today to live up to higher aspirations for the commonwealth of humanity. Jose Rizal inspired the decolonization resistance movement in the Philippines, Henry George wrote a guidebook for decoupling landlordism from getting a livelihood, Kate Kennedy brought a model for economic independence to women, Sun Yat-sen launched the democracy movement in China , William Leidesdorff strove for dignity free from racial oppression, and Joshua Norton supplied a court jester's reminder that only a fool would believe that one individual can set the world aright . . . take it easy, idealists.
