Free walking tours in Oaxaca

I am really sad to say this is the only walking tour I've ever taken that I wouldn't recommend - this is only due to the guide, not the company, which I've done lots of walking tours with in lots of different countries. To me, a great walking tour is really a storytelling tour; our guide merely named places and the people who lived there and gave us some basic facts about Oaxaca - she missed so many opportunities for anecdotes! She didn't understand our questions and struggled to communicate fluently in English. While I would never expect someone in a restaurant or shop in Mexico to speak English, it's kind of important for a guide who specifically gives tours in English. I would do the tour again, but with a different guide.

I had a great time on this tour and learned a lot about Oaxaca. The guide was friendly, professional and informative. Would recommend!!

Abel was great! There was a large group, but it was all Spanish-speaking so he did a separate tour for another person and myself in English. The information he gave us as we walked and sat was wonderful. I always love doing these chores because I learned so much about the cities that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Highly recommend.

We learned more in 2 hours about street art, Oaxaca and Mexico than with any Mexicans (including tour guides) we met during the last 3 weeks. Our guide ( Dulce) is a true gem.

11/10!! Great way to orientate to the city… especially when there are so many hidden treasures not visible from the roadside.

Noel took us into buildings we wouldn’t have thought we were allowed into such as the convent now a hotel. He showed us culinary specialities of the region in the markets encouraging us to try different things.

A very interesting area to walk around and view the murals. We would have missed this area, even though our hotel was close. Worth doing.

Great way to see Oaxaca outside of the touristy downtown, nice to hang around the neighborhood afterwards as well.

Guadalupe was a wonderful guide. We had trouble with our directions but she was very patient and helped is find her. She took us all throughout the large market and helped us try all sorts of foods we wouldn’t even know to try. We learned a lot about indigenous culture and foods. Guadalupe is extremely knowledgeable. Her English is great and we really enjoyed our time with her. Being with her in the market really enriched our experience.

I basically had a private Tour with Abel because I was the only one speaking english, so it was pretty great! Abel asked Me what my Wishes for the Tour were and adapted it. I liked the Tour of the galleries in the cultural Center of San Pablo the most. He had a lot of Knowledge about the artists and expositions, ist was great!

This tour was excellent and Noel was a fantastic guide! He knew so much about Oaxaca's landmarks, history and culture and shared many interesting stories about the city's significant people and events, which really brought the city to life. Since the tour, we've been enjoying his recommended restaurants and markets, which have all been great additions to our trip. I would highly recommend this tour!
