Free tour: Cultural walk through the Palais Longchamp and its gardens
During our tour, we will learn about the history and anecdotes of the Palais Longchamp, built in the mid-19th century to celebrate the arrival of water from the Durance River to Marseille. We will detail the symbolism of the sculptural groups of its monumental fountain and the Fine Arts and History museums from the same historical period. We will stroll through its gardens where busts in homage to various Provençal poets and artists and the Astronomical Observatory are located. We will explore the Zoological Park and its pavilions from the same era. All under the shade of century-old trees, fountains, and waterfalls. At the end of the guided tour, you can, if you wish, have a refreshment on one of the two terraces in the park or visit the two free-access museums on your own.
