La Moneda: Changing of the Guard + History of the Coup d'État (Explained) and Pre-Hispanic Peoples in Santiago
We will meet at the designated place and time to start this Free Tour. The Changing of the Guard at La Moneda is more than a ceremony: it reflects Chile's political history. Most people watch for a few minutes and leave without understanding its significance. Here, you will not only see it, we will explain it. You will discover its evolution, symbolism, and details that often go unnoticed. It includes an outdoor walk to understand the historical context: the breakdown of democracy and the Coup d'état of September 11, 1973, along with references to pre-Hispanic peoples.
Important: It does not take place every day, it operates according to the official calendar on even or odd days of the month. In May, it corresponds to odd days, so you must book on dates with the ceremony.
We will stop at Morandé 80 and the monument to Salvador Allende. Then we will witness the change and review the origin of the Casa de la Moneda and its role as the seat of government.
We will continue through Huérfanos, Bandera, and Ahumada walks to the Monument of the Indigenous Peoples, addressing cultures such as Picunches, Mapuches, Huilliches, and Pehuenches, as well as the Qhapaq Ñan. If there is no ceremony, we will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral. Approximate duration: 2 hours.
As it is a Free Tour, we greatly appreciate a nice review, as well as tips, to continue spreading the cultural contribution of our city. See you 🇨🇱
