Wellington - A very Compact City
Description
Starting from the center of Wellington at the Civic Square, the walk will cross the City to Sea Bridge to the Whairepo Lagoon and the Whare Waka (Maori canoe storage). Past the statue of Kupe the tour will head North past the Wahine Memorial to Queens Wharf and the small City and Sea Museum, then on past the Ferry Terminals to the Wellington Railway Station. The subway will take the tour through to old Thorndon and the Houses of Parliament. From the War Memorial the tour will turn South to follow "The Golden Mile" - 1.6kms of pedestrian walkway, past the Cable Car (a side trip if requested) and Plimmer Steps. The tour will proceed past the Civic Square to Cuba Street, and then back along Taranaki Street to the Civic theater and Te Papa National Museum. There is the option of a brief loop to Waitangi Park and the waterfront, or Wellington's beach at Oriental Bay. The tour will end at Te Papa or nearby Civic Square where it started.
