Old Toronto to New: Free Walking Tour
The tour lasts 3 hours
Available in German
Description
The Old Toronto to the Toronto Sign walking tour is more than a sightseeing route. It is a guided introduction to how Toronto became Toronto. Starting at St. Lawrence Market, we explore the city as a place of trade, movement, immigration, ambition, rebuilding, and reinvention.
The route moves through Old Town and the Financial District before ending at Toronto City Hall and the famous Toronto Sign. You will pass some of the city's most photogenic and story-rich places, including St. Lawrence Market, the old Toronto Stock Exchange, and Nathan Phillips Square.
Instead of simply pointing at landmarks, your guide connects the stops into a bigger story: the colonial town of York, early settlers, underground pedestrian culture, and Toronto as a modern immigrant city.
The tour is designed for first-time visitors who want to get their bearings, but it also works for locals who want to see familiar streets differently. Expect history, humour, photos, practical advice, food recommendations, transit tips, and a few stories that are easier to remember than dates. The official tour ends at the Toronto Sign.
