Following the trail of the Army of the Andes
Description
Can a city change the destiny of a continent?
Long before the Crossing of the Andes, Mendoza became the heart of the revolution. On this journey, we will follow in the footsteps of the Army of the Andes to discover how a small city in the Cuyo region made possible one of the most extraordinary military campaigns in history.
Throughout the tour we will learn about the places where José de San Martín lived, where his daughter Mercedes was born, and how the expedition that liberated Chile and paved the way for Peru's independence was organized step by step.
But this story was not the work of a single man. We will also discover the fundamental role of the Patricias Mendocinas, Friar Luis Beltrán, the Afro-descendants who made up the Army of the Andes, Tomás Godoy Cruz, and many other protagonists who made this epic possible.
We will visit historical sites such as Plaza Pedro del Castillo, the Jesuit Ruins of San Francisco, the San Martín House Museum ( optional, entrance is at the visitor's expense ) , the historic site where the Liberator dreamed of building his final home, the sculpture of Fray Luis Beltrán, Plaza San Martín and Plaza Independencia.
This is not a tour of dates and monuments. It is an invitation to understand how a revolution was planned, how an army was built from scratch, and why the Crossing of the Andes remains one of the greatest military feats of all time.
