Eat your way through two sides of Barcelona on an evening that takes you from the hidden bars of the Gothic Quarter to the handpicked kitchens of Time Out Market Barcelona. Every stop on your evening is a Time Out recommends gem.
Your evening starts in the Gothic Quarter, inside what looks like an ordinary neighborhood bookshop. Hidden among the shelves is a tiny wine bar that's been serving locals for decades. Settle in for a glass of cava, cured mountain sausage, and smoked-sardine brioche, your first sign that this part of Barcelona hides more than it shows.
From there, you'll walk to an 80-year-old bodega that started life as a grocery store before becoming one of the neighborhood's favorite wine cellars, the kind of place where, by some accounts, Salvador Dalí once sat for hours. Taste patatas bravas and Manchego cheese with a glass of vermouth as you learn about la hora del vermut, the pre-meal ritual that's stayed part of daily life in Catalonia for generations.
Next, a tapas bar that hasn't changed its short menu since 1945. Try Catalan sausage and crisp fried fish with wine poured straight from the barrel. You'll watch as your guide demonstrates the porrón, a long-spouted pitcher built for drinking without touching your lips to the rim.
The night ends across the waterfront at Time Out Market Barcelona, where every kitchen and counter has been carefully selected by Time Out's team. Sit down to enjoy a classic seafood paella or flavorful vegetarian paella, made by Can Ros, a family-run Barcelona institution for more than a century. Then indulge in artisan-made churros, served with indulgent hot chocolate for dipping, from Carmen Atelier de Churros, a traditional churrería. All this as you enjoy a drink and take in the panoramic views of Barcelona's port just beyond the market's windows.
From hidden local institutions to some of Barcelona’s best culinary talent, experience the city’s food story through the places, people and flavours that shaped it.
