History, art, and architecture are combined on this visit to the Porto Cathedral, where you'll get an entrance ticket to this site consecrated to the Assumption of Our Lady.
Tour Details
We'll meet at the indicated time at the Pelourinho do Porto, located in the praça do Terreiro da Sé, in front of the main entrance to the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady. Firstly, we'll admire the views of the city from the Terreiro da Sé viewpoint. After enjoying these views, we'll go inside the cathedral for our guided tour of Porto Cathedral, one of the main religious monuments in northern Portugal.
During the tour, we'll learn about the cathedral's history, dating back to the 12th century, initially constructed in Romanesque styles and later incorporating Gothic and Baroque elements. We’ll admire its stained-glass windows, the altar of Our Lady and the Child Jesus, and visit the Gothic cloister. Additionally, we'll climb to the upper viewpoints of Porto Cathedral for remarkable city views.
Finally, we'll visit the Casa do Cabildo Diocesano of Porto, concluding the 1-hour activity in front of the cathedral’s main façade, focusing on the portico, rose window, and twin bell towers.
Episcopal Palace Tour
If you select this option, after the Porto Cathedral tour, you'll enjoy a guided tour of the Episcopal Palace, lasting 1 hour. This building, annexed to the cathedral, showcases significant Portuguese Baroque architecture. You’ll explore its luxurious rooms and view an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts that illustrate the cultural importance of Porto.
