I was the only person who joined the walking tour that day with Melody, my sweet host. She’s young but knows so much about Hanoi and Vietnam — I was really surprised by her knowledge and the way she explained everything. Since it was just the two of us, we had amazing conversations. She told me stories about her life, her family, and Vietnam’s culture. I also shared about India, and she was so curious to know more. I really enjoyed the local market, spices market, local streer food behind the scenes area, where she showed me how locals live, prepare and cook and shop every day. The best part was when she took me to a small local place at the end. She made me try lime tea (Tra Chanh) and tamarind tea with sunflower seeds, and even taught me how to eat them! We laughed so much and didn’t even realize how quickly time passed. Melody made me feel like I was walking around with a friend, not a guide.
Melody was an amazing guide who told us many interesting stories about Vietnam’s history and culture. The places we visited were awesome, especially the local market. Our group was really fun, we even went for lunch together afterward. Melody also shared lots of great food recommendations and even vegetarian for me. She created such a warm and friendly atmosphere. Totally recommend!
If you are looking for a tour of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Melody is your perfect choice of guide. She’s engaging, knowledgeable, personable, and able to field any question. Her tour was well thought out and included a brief history lesson to build our understanding of the history of Vietnam. We would take another tour with her in a heartbeat!
Melody was knowledgeable and a good English speaker. She also keeps her groups small, which is really nice.
