Hi, my name is Irmelo Lorenzo Gertze, though most people simply call me Lorenzo. I’ve been a tour guide in Swakopmund since 2015, sharing the stories of the town I grew up in and the country I love.
I’ve always been fascinated by history—how events shaped places, people, and cultures—and I enjoy bringing those stories to life for visitors. Guiding has given me the chance to meet travelers from all over the world. Each encounter is an exchange: I share Namibia’s history and traditions, while learning from the perspectives of my guests.
Over time, I’ve embraced a simple philosophy: life places us exactly where we’re meant to be. For me, that place is here—welcoming you to Swakopmund and helping you discover its beauty, history, and spirit.
Lorenzo was a great guide, friendly, passionate and super knowledgeable about Swakopmund's history. He gave us an in-depth tour of local landmarks along with his insights as a lifelong resident of the town, from the stories behind historic buildings to a climb up the local watch-tower, Damara tower. A morning well spent before heading off to Sossusvlei!

We had an excellent GuruWalk in Swakopmund with Lorenzo on Sunday morning. Walking through the city while discovering the different places, architecture, and fascinating history behind how Swakopmund was built made the experience truly special. Lorenzo knows an incredible amount about the city and shares everything in a very engaging and enjoyable way.
