Free tours a George Town

JS is incredibly enthusiastic & has a great pride in his city, Penang, which really shines through on his tour. Very informative & took us to a wide range of places covering history, key people, art, food, architecture etc.

JS explains very clearly and makes every effort to accommodate everyone on the tour. Due to the rain and the various needs the tour went almost 6 hours. By the end it felt a little bit long, so come rested, but it was a wonderful, thorough introduction to Penang. Also, got many useful tips from JS. Thank you

Ashline took us on a tour that lasted nearly five hours. We ate at about six different restaurants and visited many historical sites. The food was delicious and we felt comfortable eating many items new to our palates. Because the tour involved so much sitting down to eat, the amount of walking was less than a typical walking tour. Ashline acted as our hostess and was gracious, sensitive, and protective of dietary needs and restrictions. We ate with locals everywhere but never felt out of place. Thank you Ashline for giving us a fabulous food tour of Georgetown. We recommend you to anyone who visits.

Our four hour tour lasted for five, there was so much to cover. JS personalized the tour for each of the eight members, answering specific questions and linking events in Georgetown to external events familiar to the audience. I highly recommend the Heritage tour. Thanks JS.

Very happy with our decision to book this tour last minute. Make sure you go hungry as you will eat SO MUCH food on the tour. Ashline (our tour guide) was lovely, engaged and very knowledgeable. Not only was it great to taste all the best local food you will hear so much about the history and cultural heritage of Penang. The samosas truely are the best you will ever try! Thanks for a great experience.

JS was professional from the moment we met him right to the end. He considered our comfort at all times. Checking throughout if we needed to stop for a break or replenish water and always stopped in a shaded spot when he was giving an extended narrative.(It was hot) His knowledge about Georgetown and Penang is abundant and with the information now given I will be able to retrace some of the steps and explore more. Thankyou JS for a fun and informative tour.

This was a fantastic tour with a great blend of food, culture, & historical information. Our guide, Ashline, was a true delight and a wealth of information & knowledge. The tour took a while (about 4 hours) but with the amount of food it was nice to have walks & information in between food stops. I left the tour very full & feeling immersed in Penang’s rich culture.

We had a good experience and learned a lot about Chinese culture and history, however we felt that the tour could be optimized. We spent a lot of time talking about things that, I feel, do not necessarily need an explanation. We would also have liked to get an introduction to the city, the city’s history, and the places we were going to visit instead of only a very long introduction to the functioning of a free tour.

Eve was an amazing guide in Penang! She knows the island inside out, from George Town's street art and heritage shophouses to the hawker stalls locals actually queue for. She shared the stories behind every place, adjusted the plan around what I enjoyed most, and paced the day so it never felt rushed. It felt like exploring with a friend rather than a guide. If you're visiting Penang, book Eve. You won't regret it!

Ken has a very deep understanding and knowledge of Malaysian history. Her story telling is very informative, and she structured it in a way that it is easy to understand and fun to follow. It is a relaxing walk in the heart of George Town. My wife and I are 3rd generation Malaysian chinese living in KL, what we learnt from Ken definitely blew our mind. Highly recommend to anyone who interested in multiculturalism of Penang.

I’ve done quite a few walking tours during my travels, and this was honestly one of the best I’ve ever experienced! JS was an absolutely fantastic guide. From the moment we started, it was clear just how passionate he is about Penang, its history, its culture, and its people. What made the tour so special was not just how much he knew, but how enthusiastically he shared that knowledge with us. You could tell he genuinely loves what he does, and that passion made the entire experience so much more interesting and enjoyable. The tour went for around four hours, and we covered so much ground, exploring different parts of Georgetown, including Chinatown, Little India, Armenian Street, the temples, the waterfront, Fort Cornwallis, and the famous Blue Mansion. JS explained so much along the way, from the history of the buildings and the different cultural influences that have shaped Penang, to the traditions, stories, and everyday details that you would easily walk past without ever knowing their significance. What I particularly appreciated was how much detail he went into. This wasn't just a case of walking around and being told the names of buildings or given a few basic historical facts. JS really brought the place to life. He explained the stories behind what we were seeing, how the different communities have influenced the city, and why Penang has become the unique place it is today. He also pointed out things I would never have noticed on my own, including the incredible street art, little hidden installations, and the way art has become part of Georgetown's identity while working within the restrictions of its UNESCO heritage status. You could ask questions, learn something new around every corner, and really feel like you were getting an insight into Penang rather than simply being shown the tourist attractions. JS was also incredibly friendly, welcoming, and easy to spend time with. Four hours is a decent amount of time to spend on a walking tour, but the time genuinely flew by because of how engaging he was and how much there was to learn. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he made the whole experience feel relaxed, interesting, and fun. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Penang, whether it's your first time here or you've already spent a few days exploring Georgetown. You'll come away with a much deeper appreciation for the city, its history, and its culture. A massive thank you to JS for sharing so much of his knowledge, time, and passion with us. It's guides like him who make travelling such a rewarding experience. One of the best walking tours I've done, and an absolute highlight of my time in Penang. If you're visiting, do yourself a favour and book this tour!

Ken is a lovely lady. She is kind, knowledgable and patient. She really made our tour special. We learnt so much from her and got some nice snacks in the way too. Even though it was raining heavily she made such an effort to make sure we were comfortable and could carry on the tour. I recommend this tour!
