Honestly not the best tour we’ve done. We started the tour ten minutes late even though everyone was here waiting around. The real problème was that as soon as we arrived, she said ´You know how walking tours work right?’ We said yes, we’ve done more then 10 during our travels. She said ‘Great, so you know that we expect tips to pay off the platform commission. We expect 200 pesos’. We hadn’t even begun the tour yet! No guide had announced anything like this before in any tour we had done. We always tip well and know that guides should be paid even if the tour says it is free as everyone should be paid for their labour but the way she basically announced it made us feel cornered and taken advantage of. I said that it would be good if this was written down somewhere, and she just doubled down. She also could not answer our question about the prevalence of different languages in Mexico. When we asked her, she accused us of asking her to choose which language was more important and made it out like we were being unreasonable for even asking, which is obviously not what we were asking and the whole group found it a bit weird. Just in case, I googled it and the most spoken indigenous language in Mexico is Nahuatl. She also rudely told one girl: ‘let me finish’ as she was starting to very politely ask a question in a break in her explanation. She gave good recommendations about food and had lots of interesting facts to share but she was quite abrupt and didn’t come across as very friendly.
