Søren Kierkegaard, Hannah Arendt and Copenhagen
In changing and unsecured times there is much gold to find with the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard and German/American political thinker Hannah Arendt, who has several connections to Denmark.
This tour is for you who heard about Kierkegaard and Arendt in your studies or later on; but also for you who has never heard about them before. You will on this tour hear about the connection between Kierkegaard and Arendt and their places in Copenhagen.
- We start at “Søren Kierkegaards plads” in front of entrance to black diamond (royal library). While we look at the seaside, we hear about Arendt’s love to our common world and Kierkegaards use of nature for his recreation and as contents in his writings.
- We will walk to the Jewish museum and hear about Arendt’s adminiration of the Danish rescue of the jews during ww2 and about Kierkegaards distrust to the jews.
- Next to the statue of Kierkegaard and hear about his existialism. And about how Arendt uses existentialism, which is throughly influenced by Kierkegaard.
- We continue to the Danish parlament and hear about the making of the law of constitution in 1849 and Kierkegaards antiparthy towards a mass democracey. Likewise we dwell with Arendt’s thoughts about participatory/representative democracy.
- We walk up to the university and hear about when Arendt recieved the Sonning Price at Copenhagen University in 1975. Likewise we hear about Kierkegaards studies at the same university.
- We will end at the church and hear about Kierkegaards christianity and about how Arendt’s uses concepts from Christianity to talk about interpersonal relations. We end with hearing about the construction of the church in Kierkegaards time and take a look inside - a very clean scandinavian design.
